Julio Moreno was one of the most well known pitchers to come
out of the Cuban amateur teams
of the 1940's and 1950's.
His nickname was "Jiqui", which came
from the hardwood that grew in his native land. At only 5'8" and 165 pounds, Moreno threw hard.
In the early 1940's, Julio Moreno helped lead Cuba to a couple of gold medals in the Amateur World Series.

In his 1st start for the Washington Senators on September 8, 1950, Julio pitched a complete game 10-4 win
over the Philadelphia Athletics.
